BCB XI on backfoot

Despite BCB XI left-arm spinner Taijul Islam’s four for 135, Dr. Dy Patil Cricket Academy posted 300 for eight by the end of the first day of a four-day match in the Dr (Capt) K. Thimmappiah Memorial tournament at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in India yesterday.

Sent in to field, Taijul scalped opener Mannan Vohra as early as the sixth over, leaving Dr. Dy Patil Cricket Academy at two for one. However, Ashay Sardesai, who remained unbeaten on 112 off 239 balls, strung together a 58-run third-wicket partnership with Naushad Shaikh before forging another 86-run fourth-wicket stand with Shubham Ranjane to see their side post a commendable total.

Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed returned economical figures of two for 33 from his 19 overs for BCB XI.
