Avengers clinch DUFA title

Banasree Avengers clinched the title of Walton-DUFA Premier League with a one-wicket win over Ramna Raiders in the nail-biting final at the Jagannath Hall Playground on Friday.

Banasree reached the target of 60 losing seven wickets with one ball to spare as Saiful Islam played a key role, scoring team-high 33 runs while Masud came up with a useful 12-run knock to help Banasree taste their first trophy of the nine-a-side tournament.

Ramna had earlier put up a fighting 59 runs in the stipulated five overs after losing six wickets. Shimul scored 33 runs before retiring from batting, according to the bylaws while Kabir hit 15.  

Dhaka University Friends Association (DUFA), an organization of former Dhaka University students from 1995-96 session, arranged the day-long cricket carnival for its members, who attended the programme amidst huge fanfare with family members also present to enjoy the matches of six participating teams – Banasree Avengers, Ramna Riders, Sher-E-Mohammadpur, Khilgaon Dynamites, Uttar Lions and Mirpur Lions.

Earlier of the day, first Bangladesh Test captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy declared the tournament open as the chief guest while DUFA president AKM Enayet Hossain and former national cricketer Javed Omar Belim distributed prize among the winners.

DUFA also accorded a reception to its five members who have been working as sports journalists at the national dailies like The Daily Star, Prothom Alo, New Age and Daily Kaler Kantha.
