Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza is on his way back home from the tour of Ireland and England today because his wife has taken ill, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Khaled Mahmud has informed. He is scheduled to land in Dhaka at 11:00pm tonight.

“He is returning due to a family emergency. His wife is ill and has been admitted to a city hospital,” said Mahmud. “Only after he observes the situation with his wife can we say for certain when he will fly back.”

Mashrafe was part of an 18-member Bangladesh squad that flew to England on April 27 for a 10-day training camp in Sussex ahead of a tri-series in Ireland that will also feature New Zealand. The team will then take part in the Champions Trophy in England from June 1.

The Bangladesh team are currently in Sussex. It was learnt that if all is well, Mashrafe may fly back to Sussex on May 4.
