Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has said that the board has contacted Pakistan’s former national bowling coach, Aaqib Javed, to take up that role with the Tigers.

The BCB president, who spoke to reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur following a meeting earlier today, also confirmed that the board would adapt a two-tier selection policy which will include the head coach and the team manager.

“We have contacted Aaqib Javed,” said Papon. “We will get to know a decision from him in a day or two. It may be a yes or a no. Aside from him we have also made an alternative list of coaches. We are also looking for spin coaches,” he added.

According to Papon, the board’s future national selection policy will go through two phases. A selection committee will be formed, including the three national selectors, the coach, the manager and the head of the BCB’s cricket operations committee.

The duty of the selection committee will be to advise the selection panel -- consisting of the chief selector and the two national selectors -- prior to the series. The national selectors, based on the advice will make an appropriate team after which they will sit with the coach and the manager once again. Only when all the members of the committee agree to the team will it be sent to the BCB president for the final approval.

The changes have been brought in order to bring about a better communication strategy between the team management and the national selectors.

“This way there will be no scope for disagreement,” said Papon. “We are done discussing the new selection policy. It will now be passed on to the board and an official decision will be taken at the board meeting,” he added.

Furthermore, Papon also spoke about the need for Mustafizur Rahman to rest and recover. “His medical reports suggest that his fitness levels need to improve. He will be back from home after a few days and then go through another evaluation. If we find that he is fit, then we will have no problems sending him to Sussex. However, we won’t take any risk if he isn’t fit,” said the BCB president.

The BCB president also said that he was aware of the complaints that were raised with regards to the poor umpiring in the Dhaka Premier League and that the board would take stern actions in order to prevent any ‘unfair’ practice in the domestic circuit.

With regards to Bangladesh’s tour of India this year, which seems to be on jittery grounds, Papon said: “Our CEO sent them an official letter in order to know the status of the one-Test tour that is scheduled to take place this year. I am sure we will get to know an answer within the next few days.”
