Bangladesh cricketer Soumya Sarkar was sent back to the pavilion for a duck for the first time in his career during the first game of the 3-match ODI series against Afghanistan at Mirpur today.

Soumya suffered the ignominy in the 17th ODI match of his career, and it was only the second occasion when the left-handed batter failed to cross double digits in terms of runs scored.

The Tigers opener was dismissed in the first over of the match, when Dawlat Zadran's short ball got the better of him. The ball was banged in short and kicked up outside off. Soumya tried to pull, lost his shape and ended up giving a simple catch to midwicket.

In 17 matches, Soumya has scored 692 runs at an average of 46. His highest score, 127 not out came against Pakistan on April 22, 2015 at Mirpur. Besides the century, Soumya has four fifties to his name.
