The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the latest rankings yesterday following the end of the ODI series between England and Pakistan, and Bangladesh are still ranked seventh in the ODIs, with Pakistan two points behind on eighth.

Prior to the five-match series Pakistan had hopes of boosting their hopes of securing a direct qualification into the 2019 ICC World Cup in England by moving above Bangladesh. If Pakistan had won two matches, they would have had 91 points -- the same as Bangladesh -- but would have been ranked behind the Tigers by a fraction. Had they won three matches, they would have moved above Bangladesh.

However, Australia won the series 4-1 and as a result, Pakistan's score remained on 89.

As per ICC's rules, the top eight teams up until September 30 this year will directly qualify for the World Cup 2019 in England. The remaining teams will have to play the qualifying round.

Bangladesh will play their next ODI series against Sri Lanka in March. After that they will travel to the UK to take part in the Champions Trophy
