Afridi trumps Mahmudullah's three-for

Shahid Afridi played an unbeaten knock of 45 off 23 balls as Peshawar Zalmi scraped home with two wickets in hand in their PSL fixture agaisnt Quetta Gladiators on Saturday.

The former Pakistan all-rounder came in a No. 8 and blasted his way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat for Peshawar, who wobbled chasing 129, thanks to three-wicket hauls from Mahmudullah Riyad and Tymal Mills.

Batting first, Quetta were bowled out for 128 in 20 overs with Kevin Pietersen (41) and Rilee Rossouw (38) scoring the bulk of runs. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took a wicket for 25 while Pakistani spinner Mohammad Asghar took three for 33.

Peshawar'r reply began meekly as Mahmudullah dismissed Tamim Iqbal cheaply (7 off 13) . Shakib was run out for 1 and a double strike from Mahmudullah reduced Peshawar to 52 for 6. That's when Afridi came at the crease and took charge, smacking three sixes and three fours to guide his side home and on top of the table with four balls to spare.
