Although Bangladesh women suffered a 36-run defeat at the hands of England during the 4th match of ICC Women’s World T20 2016 at Bangalore today, they managed to score the highest total in 28 T20Is by reaching 117 for six in the lost cause.

The previous highest total for Bangladesh women was 115 for 9 against Sri Lanka, which was scored at Sylhet on April 1, 2014. Today was the 8th time Bangladesh women were able to cross the 100-mark in T20 matches.

Chasing 154 to win, Bangladesh women were never in the game after a slow start weighed down by the loss of early wickets. After Fargana was dismissed in the ninth over with only 38 runs on the board, the writing was on the wall as far as Bangladesh were concerned.

Nigar Sultana and Salma Khatun were the only players able to show some fight, and resist the English onslaught. The fifth wicket partnership of 64 between them took Bangladesh to their milestone today.

Nigar was stumped for a well-made 35. She faced 28 balls and struck four fours and a huge six in her knock. Salma was not out at 32 in 30 balls with four boundaries to her name. Fargana and Rumana were the other notable contributors to Bangladesh’s cause today, and both fell after scoring 19 runs.

The English total was built on a splendid knock of 60 in 51 balls by opener Charlotte Edwards, and some quick runs in the end from Wyaat and Brunt. Bangladesh’s Jahanara conceded 32 runs in four overs, but picked up three wickets to show for her efforts.

Bangladesh women’s next match is on March 20, 2016 against West Indies at Chennai. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm local time.
