They play fearless cricket: Rohit

Despite having made his debut over 14 years ago, wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has been in and out of the Indian team, unable to cement a spot. He was only given an opportunity for the Nidahas Trophy due to India sending a side weakened by the decision to rest a few regulars.

However, the 32-year-old delivered in style after walking onto the crease with the humongous task of getting India 34 runs from the final two overs. Karthik smashed a flat six off Soumya Sarkar off the last ball of the match when his side needed five runs to win, clinching the Nidahas Trophy.

"When I got out and went and sat in the dugout, he was quite upset that he didn't bat at six. But I told him: 'I want you to bat and finish off the game for us because whatever skill you have, it will be required in the last three or four overs'. He can do that for us. That is the only reason he was not batting at six. He was quite upset with that," said India captain Rohit Sharma. "Again, he'll be quite happy with how he finished off the game. He was with us in South Africa and didn't get much game time.

"To do what he did today will give him a lot of confidence going forward. The most important thing is that he has the belief in himself. Whatever situation comes, he's ready. That's the kind of guy we need in our team," Rohit added during the post-match press conference.

When queried whether he had witnessed anything about the Bangladeshi brand of cricket, Rohit said: "I won't say they are not good enough [in T20s]. Bangladesh certainly have great talent in the squad. Even today, it was a close finish; it wasn't as if we came out here and smashed them and won the game. We had to earn that victory and it is a good sign for their cricket.

"They shouldn't be disappointed, they have a long way to go. At the start of the tournament, they played some really good cricket and the two games they won against Sri Lanka were there for all of us to see, you know what kind of players they have and what sort of cricket they play. They play fearless cricket, it's always good. Sometimes, it can bite you when things don't go your way but that is the style of cricket they want to play," he said.
