Soumya ton in vain as Brothers pull off thrilling last-ball win

Brothers Union overcame Soumya Sarkar's imperious ton with a thrilling last-ball win to ensure their stay in the Premier League and dump Agrani Bank to the second tier.

In an exciting game, Brothers needed four off the last delivery and Nazmus Saddat hit Rishi Dhawan for a four -- just what was required, to clinch victory for Brothers.

Mizanur Rahman and Junaid Siddique had started the Brothers chase brilliantly as the duo picked up 121 runs in 13.4 overs before Mizanur fell for a 45-ball 62. Junaid carried on to strike a 77-ball 83 while Myshukur Rahman played a patient 95-ball 82 knock. Debabrata Das then blazed away with a 62-ball 73 but after he fell in the final over to Rishi, Nazmus on hand to take Brothers over the rope.

Agrani Bank and Brothers were playing in the crucial relegation league match with both teams on 10 points before the game. It was a do-or-die game as the winner would survive while the defeated gets relegated along Kalabagan Krira Chakra.

Earlier, after a series of bad scores with the bat in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), Soumya Sarkar finally found himself amongst the runs as he struck 154 against Brothers Union as Agrani Bank posted 334 on the board at Savar.

Soumya, who opened the innings for Agrani, came alive in this fate-deciding match as he struck nine fours and 11 sixes on his way to a magnificent 127-ball 154. Soumya's knock is also the highest individual score in this season's DPL.

India's Rishi Dhawan also capitalized on Soumya's presence as he sped away to an unbeaten 65-ball 80 with nine fours and a six. He and Soumya put on 171-run fifth-wicket partnership.  All four Agrani tail-enders fell for naught as Agrani were bowled out in 49.1 overs but not before they had put on a formidable total on the scoreboard.
