Shakib excited by upcoming MCC meeting

SHAKIB AL HASAN

Bangladesh's Test captain and ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to attend MCC's meeting at Sydney on January 10 and the cricketer said that it will provide him with an opportunity to voice Bangladesh's concerns and problems to the cricketing world at large.

Shakib informed that he is aware of the agendas that will be discussed during the meeting and suggested that he would have to polish his understanding regarding the agendas as it would be unwise to go to the meeting unprepared.

"The agendas that will be discussed have already been announced for the two-day meeting," he said.

Shakib confirmed that four-day Test is part of the agenda for the MCC meeting. The ace all-rounder was excited and believes that it is a great honour to be part of the MCC committee.

"Yes, I am excited. It is indeed a great honour but it is also a responsibility. Previously there was no one to represent Bangladesh in these meetings. They [MCC] were not aware of the opportunities or the challenges we were facing. I think I will be able to share our side of things.

He also reiterated that Bangladesh have a good chance in the upcoming tri-nation series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

"Yes, ofcourse," Shakib said when asked if Bangladesh are favourites. "We believe we have a great opportunity. But since both teams are very good and they are aware of our abilities and the playing conditions in Bangladesh, it will be very competitive.

Regarding the roles in the side, the Test skipper replied: "We are not thinking too much about that. We are all well aware of our roles in the team."

"If we can carry out our roles properly then we will be successful. Since we are captain and vice-captain, so naturally there will a bit more responsibility on us," he said regarding his and Mahmudullah's role.

Shakib, who had been featuring in the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders for the past seven years, has been released for this edition and he will also be available in the players' auction scheduled to take place on January 28 and 29.

"There is nothing odd about this. My name will be at the players' auction and if someone picks me then that's great. If not then it does not matter a lot," the all-rounder concluded.
