Women cricketers bring cricket back to life in Rangpur

While the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is yet to finalise a plan for the return of cricket for women cricketers in the country, an academy in Rangpur took a bold initiative in bringing women cricketers back in action.

Rangpur stadium, which was left without holding any events since March this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, got back to life after a two-day long women cricket tournament was organized there.

Five national women cricketers played in the tournament.

The two-day cricket festival, organized by the Dreamer Cricket Academy in Rangpur, ended today marking the first anniversary of the local cricket academy, founded by national cricketer Arifa Jahan Bithi.

The female cricketers of the national team inaugurated the tournament by revealing

the jerseys of the players on Tuesday.

"A total of 56 women cricketers coming from various districts participated in the tournament. Rangpur, Dinajpur, Gaibandha and Lalmonirhat are the four teams that took part in the tournament," informed Bithi to The Daily Star. 

Four T20 matches were held at the stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday with Rangpur taking on Lalmonirhat in the final match.

Movana Mostarim and Farzana Haq were among the women national cricketers who played in the tournament.
