We want to start the U-19 camp after Eid: Mahmud

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Game Development Committee chairman Khaled Mahmud and BCB age-group selectors sat down to discuss development programmes and resumption plans today. Mahmud informed that they are looking to resume U-19s' camp next month.

"We want to start the U-19 camp after Eid if we get government clearance and BCB agrees. Among our future plans we are also thinking of whether we can hold longer-version cricket with school champions," Mahmud reiterated.

Cricket halted in the country from mid-March following the coronavirus pandemic. The Game Development Committee were making plans for training to resume with the U-19 World Cup 16 months away. They were thinking of BKSP as the most-likely venue.

"If we can quarantine the U-19 guys, we are thinking of doing a camp at BKSP in late August. Everyone including the selectors will be there. Our plan is to start selection procedures through that camp," Mahmud informed.

The Akbar Ali-led Bangladesh Under-19 side had scripted one of the brightest chapter in the country's cricketing history by winning the last edition of the tournament. There were plans to have an international camp for that particular side in Australia or England. Mahmud reiterated that those plans will have to be pushed back for now.

"We're thinking of next June or July window for a 60-day camp under a county where we can also play some matches," he said.
