U-19s end tour with series loss

The Bangladesh Under-19 team faced a 19-run defeat in the Duckworth-Lewis- Stern method against their Sri Lankan counterparts in the fifth and final youth ODI to lose the five-match series 2-1 in Katunayake yesterday.

The series was level on 1-1 as rain forced two matches to be abandoned, turning the fifth and final game into a series decider, where rain once again played foul.

After being asked to bat first, hosts Sri Lanka posted a modest 205 for seven in 50 overs on the back of opener Kamil Mishara's 135-ball 83, which included just two fours.

Sajid Hossain took two wickets for 39 runs from his 10 overs while Shoriful Islam and skipper Towhid Hridoy picked up a wicket each.

After a rain interruption, Bangladesh were set a revised target of 184 from 37 overs but the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were 80 for four in 21 overs, 19 runs short of the par score when rain stopped play for the final time.

Earlier on tour, Bangladesh drew the two match youth Test series 1-1.
