Tigers’ ‘high-profile’ coaching panel a positive for Riyad
Mahmudullah Riyad's shoulder injury rendered him unable to bowl at the recently concluded World Cup and he struggled to perform with the ball during the recent series against Sri Lanka. He was happy to be back to bowling and was also looking forward to working with new head coach Russell Domingo and the support coaching staff of the Tigers.
"I was missing bowling since it gives me extra confidence. When I don't bat well, I fell I could contribute to the team with the ball. If I am well, I will be able to bowl in the next series," the right-arm off-spinner who bowled with a changed action during the Sri Lanka series, told the media today.
Riyad was also looking forward to working with Domingo and said 'I feel there is a lot to learn from him and it he be very good for the Bangladesh team'.
Former Kiwi spinner Daniel Vettori was appointed as a spin consultant till the T20 World Cup in 2020. Riyad wanted to personally discuss his issues with Vettori once the Kiwi begins his Bangladesh stint.
"He was a great bowler and obviously he is a big-name coach now. Personally, I will talk about my bowling with him and hopefully the information that he gives us will be useful," Riyad said.
Bangladesh's batting consultant Neil Mckenzie and newly-arrived pace bowling coach Charl Langeveldt were part of Domingo's support staff during his time as the head coach of the South Africa team. The trio getting back together can only be a good thing for Bangladesh cricket.
Riyad had a positive outlook of the Tigers' current structure. "Have been working with Neil for a while. He is an extraordinary batting coach and some of his ideas and information always helps out my batting. Vettori is there now. I have also played with Langveldt in the Sri Lankan Premier League. He is a very good person and his career speaks volumes about how good a bowler he was. I think he will be great for the pace bowlers. I think our coaching panel is high-profile and that is a very positive aspect."
