Tamim first to 6k T20-run landmark

Bangladesh's Tamim Iqbal became the first batsman in the country to reach 6000-run landmark in T20 cricket during his side Fortune Barishal's match against Beximco Dhaka at the Bangabandhu T20 Cup today.

The left-hander started the day on 5,973 runs as Dhaka sent Barishal in to bat.

Tamim, who struggled a bit early in his innings struck a 31-ball 31 laced with three fours and a six. The left-hander, also the captain of the side, however could not carry on to a big score, falling to spinner Robiul Islam Robi in the 12th over while trying to clear the ropes.

Barishal innings did no find momentum for a big score as they were restricted to 108 for eight by Mushfiqur Rahim's Dhaka on Wednesday.

Following the 31-run knock, Tamim's T20 run haul now stands at 6,004 runs. Shakib Al Hasan is the second-highest run-getter in T20s for Bangladesh with 5,011 runs followed by Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad on 4,079 and 3,943 runs respectively. Shakib had earlier in the tournament, reached a landmark of his own when he became the second player after West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo to have reached the double of 5000 runs and 350 wickets in the format, during Gemcon Khulna's match against Chattogram.
