Still hoping for a result despite unrelenting rain

Despite no play being possible for the second day in a row at Wellington's Basin Reserve due to rain, Bangladesh coach Steve Rhodes said that a result was still possible.

The forecast for tomorrow is of further showers, although it is expected to clear out as the day progresses. The Tigers did not arrive in the ground yesterday, instead hanging back at their hotels as heavy rain swept through Wellington yesterday. Even as the toss did not take place today either, the Tigers took part in some warm-up and a little practice session when the rain lessened.

Rhodes informed that play possibly did not take place today because even with some 40 minutes left, it would have been unfair on one of the side to bat after that kind of rain. The pitch is super green and expected to have a lot for seamers early on.

"I think it's best for both teams. It would have been unfair on either teams to be batting out there for 40 minutes," Rhodes said. The Tigers coach did not rule out the possibility of a result in the three remaining days of the Test match even as Wellington is known for being very batting friendly despite its greenish top. Bangladesh trail the series 1-0 after losing the first Test at Hamilton.

"Cricket is a strange game, you see a lot of two-day, three-day games. So there is still a good chance of result. Let's see how the weather is again tomorrow."

Rhodes also said that if Bangladesh win the toss tomorrow, they will bowl first but were going to stay positive if they had to bat first. "Hopefully we can win the toss tomorrow and get a few wickets early on. If not then let's try and score some runs."

Asked about the team's idea of the pitch, Rhodes said: "Luckily we have players who have played here before. They tell me it was very similar last time around. I talked to Tamim. The message for the ones who will be playing here the first time is that the wicket will always look as though it will do more than it actually does. We are trying to be positive about scoring runs too."
