Australia's former captain Steve Smith is set to play his maiden season in the Bangladesh Premier League. The fans are obviously excited at the opportunity to watch one of the world's top batsman play in action and Smith himself had a message for the Bangladesh fans after joining BPL franchise Comilla Victorians.

"Hi Bangladesh! Very excited to be part of the Bangladesh Premier League for the first time," the Australia batsman said in a video that was shared by Comilla Victorians.

"I look forward to getting over there and being part of a very successful campaign," he concluded.

Smith, who was embroiled in a ball-tampering scandal which rocked Australia Cricket was relieved of the captaincy of the Australia team following the incident and is currently serving a ban. Yesterday, Comilla coach Mohamad Salahuddin had confirmed to The Daily Star that the star batsman will be available after the first four matches.

Smith has played in a few T20 tournaments since being relieved of his duties as the Australia Captain following the ball-tampering scandal.

The right-handed batsman had featured for Barbados Tridents in the CPL this season after Shakib Al Hasan pulled out of the tournament.

Smith will join foreign stars such as Shoaib Malik, Evin Lewis, Thisara Perera and Shahid Afridi who are set to make their mark for Comilla Victorians in this season's razzle-dazzle tournament. Smith will be joined by his former vice-captain in the Australia team David Warner, who will play for the Sylhet Sixers this season.
