Shakib ‘honoured’ to meet Indian PM Modi

Bangladesh premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Dhaka today morning. 

"(I am) really honoured to meet the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modiji. I think his visit will be a fruitful one for both the countries and the leadership here shown for India is tremendous," Shakib was quoted as saying in media reports. 

Shakib also hoped that the relationship between India and Bangladesh will go a long way.

"There have been multiple tie-ups between India and Bangladesh and it's growing over the time. I am hopeful and sure that this relationship will go a long way," he further added.

Modi is now on a two-day visit to attend celebration of 50 years of Bangladesh's liberation, India-Bangladesh diplomatic relationsip and birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed the Indian premier at the VVIP terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 11:00am this morning. 

After arriving in Dhaka, Modi met Bangladeshi youths who achieved successes in various fields. Aside from Shakib, the Indian PM also met former Bangladesh ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, women cricketers Salma Khatun and Jahanara Alam, actresses Jaya Ahsan, Nusrat Faria, film director Redwan Rony, musician Sharmin Sultana Sumi and a few others.
