In a breach of the BCB Code of Conduct, Shakib Al Hasan has been banned for three matches and fined BDT 500,000 for losing his temper during a Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League game on Friday, informed Kazi Inam, chairman of Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) today.

"Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited's Shakib Al Hasan has been suspended for three matches of the ongoing Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League 2019-20 and also fined BDT 5 lac for breach of the BCB Code of Conduct. The allrounder was reported for two counts of misconduct during a match against Abahani Limited on 11 June 2021 at the SBNCS, Dhaka," read a press release issued by the BCB.

"Shakib was found guilty of conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game after showing aggressive behaviour towards the umpire on the last ball of the fifth over of the Abahani innings which constitutes to a Level 3 (2.2) Offense. The player was also penalised for a second Level 3 breach for bringing the game into disrepute through use of offensive language and reckless conduct with the umpires after the fifth ball of the sixth over of the innings," the press release added.

Shakib, skipper of Mohammedan Sporting Club, kicked the stumps out of rage after umpire Imran Parvez denied an LBW appeal in the fifth over of their game against Abahani. He was also seen threatening the umpire and also uprooted the stumps and slammed it in a fit of rage when the umpires called for covers to be brought on due to rain.

Shakib was also seen exchanging some heated words with Abahani staff and with their coach Khaled Mahmud in particular before the all-rounder was dragged away to the dressing room by his teammates.  Later, however, the misunderstanding between Shakib and Mahmud seemingly came to an end.

Shakib accepted the sanctions and as such no formal hearing was required.

The breaches were reported by on-field umpires Imran Parvez and Mahfuzur Rahman and 3rd Umpire Shorab Hossain. The penalty was imposed by Match Referee Morshedul Alam Chowdhury.

CCDM chairman Inam also informed that a committee has been formed to look into the allegations of biased umpiring and favoritism in the domestic leagues.

"A committee has been formed at the instruction of the BCB President which will meet with captains and officials of the clubs participating in the Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League 2019-20. This committee will speak to the concerned players and officials and will report back to the Board in its upcoming meeting any observations or concerns regarding the league," Inam said.
