Separate T20 league on Hassan's mind

One of the themes of the BPL's sixth edition so far has been the underperformance of local players in relation to the foreign stars as well as those of the Bangladesh national team.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahriar Nafees have pointed to the absence of a separate domestic T20 league as a possible reason for the gulf and BCB president Nazmul Hassan seemed to have taken heed of those comments.

"If the national players don't play, it will not have any charm and no one will show any interest in it," Hassan told reporters in Sylhet yesterday. "The national players are very busy. We can't even give them vacations properly, and we are worried about it. We can understand that there is a lot of pressure on them."

Hassan identified the Dhaka Premier League as a tournament to which a T20 league could be attached.

"But we have been able to come to a middle ground. We play one-day matches in the Dhaka Premier League, and it was discussed at one point that we would add T20s to that. If that happens, some players will emerge. It is hard to say whether that will happen this season, but since it has come to our attention we will of course try to do it."
