Not a BCB board meeting?

After leading Bangladesh cricketers went on strike yesterday and put forward an 11-point demand, which if not met will lead to their strike continuing, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) were expected to sit down for a board meeting in order to find a quick resolution. This morning, BCB directors were seen entering the BCB premises and all that could be surmised was that the BCB had called a board meeting. That did not turn out to be the case.

Bangladesh are scheduled to tour India to play a T20 and Test series. The first T20I is slated for November 3 and with the Tigers' camp for the upcoming tour scheduled for October 25th, things were expected to move into gear.

Everyone was talking about the board meeting since in this scenario, reporters had expected the board to sit down and find a solution but when BCB's media committee chairman Jalal Yunus was asked if it was an emergency meeting, he said: "It is unofficial. Those of us who are in Dhaka, participated in the meeting. When everyone arrives, we will sit down. Since a situation has occurred, there was concern and those of us who handle such scenarios in the board, we sat down to talk."

When BCB director Ahmed Sajjadul Alam was asked, he said: "I did not get any information regarding this meeting. Did not receive any SMS, emails or phone calls from anyone. In case of an official board meeting, I am supposed to receive confirmation from the board."

Bangladesh players placed an 11-point demand yesterday which included the resolution of payment irregularities in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), a return to the players' transfer system from the players-by-choice system in the DPL, a return to the franchise-based model of the Bangladesh Premier League from next edition, improvement in infrastructure, facilities and increased payments for first-class cricketers.
