Mehedi stars in draw

Mehedi Hasan Miraz shone with the ball on the fourth and final day of the first unofficial Test between the visiting Bangladesh A team and their Sri Lankan counterparts, but the game ended in a draw in Hambantota yesterday.

Resuming the final day on 204 for two, Sri Lanka posted a sizeable 450, taking a first-innings lead of 90 after Bangladesh posted 360 in their first innings.

Overnight batsman Kamindu Mendis was the second Lankan batsman to strike a century after Sangeeth Cooray, who resumed the day on 79 and went on to score 169 off 282 balls with 19 fours.

He was eventually dismissed by wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun, who surprisingly went on to pick up two wickets while Mehedi was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh with figures of five for 150 from 46.1 overs.

Bangladesh will take on Sri Lanka in the second unofficial Test from October 4.
