Mashrafe named in Weforum’s Young Global Leaders list

Former Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has been named amongst 10 leaders from South Asia in Weforum's Young Global Leaders list.

The cricketer, who also became an elected member of parliament (MP) from his home district of Narail during the last national elections, has been recognised for his work in helping people move out of the poverty trap in his hometown in the southwestern district.

"He launched the Narail Express Foundation, which looks to achieve six goals: offer modern facilities for citizens and a specialized education system, help start an ethical and humane education system, create employment opportunities, increase cultural activities, provide sports training, set up a tourism hub in Chitra river, and transform Narail into an information and communications technology (ICT) and environmentally friendly town," the Forum's website listed his achievements on their website.

The Forum of Young Global Leaders maintains a rigorous process each year to select and honour individuals under 40 for achievements in helping communities grow locally and worldwide.

The Forum this year selected 112 Young Global Leaders for the 'Class of 2021' with Mashrafe making the list. Mashrafe stepped down from his role as captain during Bangladesh's home series against Zimbabwe in March last year. Despite not being picked for Bangladesh's home series against West Indies this year, Mashrafe remains available for selection as a player.
