‘Love speaking in Bangla; my mother taught me this’

Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman was a force to be reckoned with following his debut in 2015. However, even though the Fizz is still relatively successful in ODIs, he has seen a sharp decline in Tests, being reduced to carrying drinks while less renowned teammates fought it out in the Tigers’ two-match series against India. Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman said today that he loves speaking in Bangla whenever he faces the media as it is the language he learned from his mother.

Mustafizur, who hails from Satkhira, has always been seen speaking in Bangla or taking help of a teammate who can converse in English during press conferences or post-match presentations.

Mustafizur talked to reporters after his practice session for his Dhaka Premier League (DPL) side Prime Bank at the BCB Academy ground today. And when asked if he would like to learn English as most players from the sub-continent who lack the fluency in English usually do, the 24-year-old, who usually speaks in his regional dialect, mentioned that he does not want to change his way of speaking.

"I would like to stay the way I always have been. I don't know what other players do. I like this. I love speaking in Bangla; my mother taught me this," said Mustafizur.

Mustafizur burst onto the international scene back in 2015 and the talented left-hander had won numerous match awards since then. However, Mustafizur lost the sharpness that he had in the initial stage of his career and while he may need to work harder to regain that form, one thing that might never change is him speaking in Bangla when he faces the media.
