Frylinck cameo trumps Shakib heroics

Shakib Al Hasan proved for the umpteenth time that when it comes to changing the complexion of a match, few can match the Dhaka Dynamites skipper. However, a heroic wicket maiden in the 17th over and figures of four for 16 from four overs could not avert defeat as Chittagong Vikings all-rounder Robbie Frylinck hit three sixes in the last over to deliver a three-wicket win in Mirpur last night.

Dhaka still sit on top of the table, but Chittagong have moved into second place with the same number of wins as Dhaka having played a game fewer.

In chase of 139 for six, Chittagong stuttered throughout the innings but even when skipper Mushfiqur Rahim was the fifth wicket to fall with the score on 95, they were still in good shape as they required 45 runs from 38 deliveries. That changed when Shakib -- who had earlier taken the wickets of Cameron Delport, Nurul Hasan and Dasun Shanaka -- bowled a maiden in the 17th over and took the wicket of Nayeem Hasan.

Mosaddek Hossain was then run out for 33 and after Rubel Hossain conceded just five runs in the 19th over, Chittagong were left needing 16 from the last over, which Shakib chose to give to pacer Mohor Sheikh. Andre Russell also had an over left, but it may have been Mohor's economical first three overs -- which had cost just 16 -- that swayed the skipper's mind. The heftily built Frylinck made the monumental task look simple with two sixes clubbed over deep midwicket and a third hit perfectly straight, winning the match with one ball to spare.

Earlier, Shakib top-scored for Dhaka with a run-a-ball 34 but got little support as Dhaka were kept to a sub-par total, with Delport excelling with three for 25.
