Eden adorned in pink for historic occasion
Bangladesh will play their first-ever day-night Test when they take on hosts India in the second Test in Kolkata on November 22. The Tigers practised today in the morning with India's practice scheduled for the afternoon and ahead of the second Test in the 'City of joy', the iconic Eden Gardens has started its pink transformation.
Art students worked on a graffiti idea -- reportedly given by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly himself -- near the clubhouse of the stadium premises. The graffiti depicted a boy who started his journey from street cricket through to the India national team. 'Pinku', the official mascot of the first-ever pink ball Test in India was attracting the attention of the crowd gathered to watch the players from both teams.
The BCCI president visited in the afternoon. He took a look at the centre pitches before going into his office. Asked about what the plans for the Test match were, he reiterated that lots of activities were being planned for the historic Test between Bangladesh and India. The second Test will be full of colour.
"There are a lot of arrangements, first day will be full of cricket and functions. The army will come down from the plane to hand over both balls to prime minister and chief minister and the captains. There is the bell ringing ceremony.
"Star [Sports] will be doing a show with Sachin [Tendulkar], Kapil [Dev], [Sunil] Gavaskar, Rahul [Dravid]. At tea time a cart will take along the former cricketers, the former captains around the ground. There will also be musical performance. There will be felicitations of everyone with both the team's former captains, prime minister, chief minister. Runa Laila will be performing, Jeet Ganguly will be performing. So, a whole lot of functions," Ganguly said.
