Comilla win big after second-largest BPL total

Opener Evin Lewis's brilliant unbeaten 49-ball 109-run knock helped Comilla Victorians post 237-run total – the second-higest total in history of Bangladesh Premier League – and win the game by 80 runs against Khulna Titans at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram today. With this win Comilla grabbed the top-spot in the points table with 12 points from nine matches.

The left-handed opener, looked exquisite from the word go as his incredible innings saw 10 maximums and five boundaries after Comilla were sent in bat first. After a 58-run opening partnership with Tamim Iqbal, Comilla lost Anamul Haque – the new batsman in – in the very next ball in the eighth over. However, a 97-run third-wicket stand between skipper Imrul Kayes and Lewis set the platform for the big-total before the latter was trapped in front off a Shoriful Islam delivery after scoring 39 runs off 21 balls. Shamshur Rahman's cameo of 28 runs off 15 balls at the death ensured Comilla end the way they started – on top.

Coming in to chase, despite a fifty off 33 balls from opener Brendan Taylor, Khulna never had a big partnership as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bundled out for 157 runs in 18.5 overs. Wahab Riaz was the pick of the bowlers for Comilla, who's hat-trick in the 19th over of the game saw him ending with figures of three wickets for 14 runs in 2.5 overs. This is the second hat-trick in this edition of BPL.
