BDPL witnesses record T20 stand

Partex Sporting Club's Isharul Islam and Jaynul Islam wrote their names in the record books with a 73-run ninth-wicket stand -- the highest partnership for that wicket in T20 cricket -- but it was not enough to assail the 201-run target set by Legends of Rupganj in the relegation league match of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 Cricket League at BKSP today.

The duo broke the record by Somerset's Corey Anderson and Josh Davey of a 69-run ninth-wicket stand, set during the 2017 Natwest T20 blast match against Surrey.

Batting first, Rupganj notched the highest team total of the tournament so far, scoring 200 for three in 20 overs. Mehedi Maruf struck 94 off 62 with nine fours and six sixes while another opener Jaker Ali hit a fluent 48-ball 74 as the duo strung together a 169-run opening stand.

Partex failed abysmally in chase of such a huge target, losing eight wickets for 100 runs before Isharul and Jaynul laid siege on the bowlers. The duo batted out the last five overs of the innings, picking up 73 runs.

Isharul was unbeaten on a 22-ball 38 while number nine batsman Jaynul thumped 37 off 14 deliveries, his unbeaten knock laced with four and four sixes as Partex finished on 173 for 8.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi picked up a seven-wicket win over Mohammedan Sporting in the Super League match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

Parvez Hossain Emon's 46 and Shamsur Rahman's 49 helped them to 133 for nine with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi's Ebadat Hossain picking up three wickets for 17 runs.

In reply to the modest total, Sheikh Jamal was in a bit of a bother as Mohammad Ashraful ate up deliveries during a 42-ball 38-run knock. Nurul Hasan (36 off 31) and Tanbir Hayder (32 off 17) saw Sheikh Jamal win with an over and seven wickets to spare.
