BCB names U-19 squad for UK tour

The Bangladesh Cricket Board yesterday announced a 16-member Under-19 squad, led by Akbar Ali, for the tri-nation one-day series in the United Kingdom.

The tri-nation series involves host England, India and Bangladesh. The young Tigers are scheduled to depart for the United Kingdom on July 15.

The Bangladesh team are going to take part in a warm up game against the Young Lions Invitational XI on July 18 before facing hosts England in the opening game of the tournament on July 22 at the New Road in Worcester.

Towhid Hridoy was named as vice-captain while the likes of leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, pacer Shoriful Islam and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury were also named in the squad.

Navid Newaz and his troops have already begun their preparations for the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa slated for next year. This tour is part of the preparations for the young Tigers, who are eyeing a top four spot in the event.

The Bangladesh Under-19 team had made the semifinal previously in 2016.
