BCB appoints Langeveldt as pace bowling coach

Vettori named Tigers' spin consultant

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the appointment of former South Africa pacer Charl Langeveldt as the pace bowling coach of Bangladesh after a board meeting in Mirpur today. Meanwhile, former New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori has been appointed as the spin consultant for 100 days (From India series in November this year till the T20 World Cup in 2020).

Langeveldt has been appointed as the full time pace bowling coach. The former Proteas pacer has previously worked as the bowling coach of South Africa and Afghanistan. He will be replacing Courtney Walsh as the bowling coach whose contract ended after the World Cup.

Vettori, who will be available for around 100 days in his role with Bangladesh which combines preparation phase, series' and tournaments including the Tour of India 2019, the Asia Cup and Tour of New Zealand in 2020, said that he is looking forward to work with the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz and other prospects.

"I have followed Bangladesh cricket for a very long time and have some great memories from touring the country. This is a team on the rise and there is so much experience and potential. It will be a pleasure to work with the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam and the other up and coming youngsters which I am looking forward to with a lot of interest,  

"Spin bowling has been a traditional strength for Bangladesh. I hope to share my knowledge as a player and coach of the demands of modern day spin bowling in all versions of the game and help the bowlers make good intelligent decisions so that they can maximise their talents and skills." said the 40-year old.

The board also extended the tenure of Minhajul Abedin and Habibul Bashar as chief selectors till the T20 World Cup in 2020. The board has also extended the contract with batting coach Neil Mckenzie till the T20 World Cup.
