Alvi powers East Zone

East Zone's Alvi Haque put in an all-round performance and ensured a six-wicket victory for his side against South Zone in their Youth Cricket League one-day match at the Shaheed Kamaruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi yesterday. In the other game of the day, North Zone registered a five-wicket victory against Central Zone at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura.

In Rajshahi, East all-rounder Alvi returned miserly figures of one wicket for 36 runs in 10 overs that included a maiden over before authoring an unbeaten 76-ball 75 to guide his side to a comprehensive win. After electing to bat, it was South who put on a respectable total of 265 for nine, courtesy of opener Rokon Uddin's 116-ball 123.

However, East were able to chase down the total easily as contributions from opener Fardin Khan (71) and Fazle Rabbi (50), combined with Alvi's unbeaten knock, delivered the win in 47.4 overs.

In the other game, Central suffered a batting collapse at the top but fifties from Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby and Shadhin at the death helped them post 180 for eight. North chased down the low total as Shakib Shahriar scored an unbeaten 71 to see his side through.
