How Tigers and cricket's other Test nations fared on their debuts

Ireland will become just the 11th nation to play Test cricket when they face Pakistan at Dublin's Malahide in a match starting Friday.

Ideally, they would like to emulate the feat of Australia, who remain the only side to have won their inaugural Test -- beating England in the first such match, in Melbourne in 1877.

And the Irish will certainly hope that, whatever happens in the days ahead, they avoid the fate of New Zealand, who took 26 years to win their first Test match.

The Bangladesh Tigers played their maiden Test match against India in a one-match Test series on November 2000, led by then skipper Naimur Rahman Durjoy. Bangladesh had started the Test match brightly at Dhaka as they posted a first innings total of 400, thanks to some gritty batting displays from the brilliant Habibul Bashar and Aminul Islam Bulbul with the latter displaying his class in a 380-ball 145-run knock. Bashar struck 71 runs as Tigers posted a big score against a team boasting the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Ganguly.

Bangladesh then restricted India to 429 as none of the India batsmen reached three-digit figure with Naimur grabbing six wickets including the prized wicket of master blaster Tendulkar, who fell for just 18. In the second innings however, Tigers were bowled out for just 91 as India then went on to win by 9 wickets on Day 4.

How did all the previous 10 Test nations start off and how long they each took to record a win in the format?
