Fizz upset but hopeful

Bangladesh star pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who suffered a hairline fracture on his left big toe and is currently undergoing rehabilitation, blamed his injury on misfortune.

The left-arm pacer hurt his toe while trying to stop a drive off his own bowling while playing a match for Mumbai Indians in an Indian Premier League match on May 20.

The 22-year-old was subsequently ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at the last moment after the physio suggested on Mat 28 that he take the next three-four weeks to recover. It was also learned recently that Mustafizur is likely to miss the first match of the Tigers' upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies starting from July 4.

"There will be injuries if you play and if it was in my destiny, then what can I do? Obviously I regret it, but it's the fact for every cricketer. What can I do? I always try to remain fit but there is nothing to do if you suffer an injury," a dejected Mustafizur told reporters at the Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy ground in Mirpur yesterday.

Contrary to the prevalent buzz, Mustafizur is hopeful of being fit for the upcoming Test series against West Indies.

"I am feeling much better as already three weeks went by and I am in my rehabilitation and trying to work accordingly and overall I am feeling very good. I am given some programme for the Eid break and after that they will check me again. As I am injured so my main aim will be to be to return back to the team and I am working accordingly," he said.
