DPL players' draft today

The Dhaka Premier League players' draft will take place at a hotel in Dhaka today with the tournament scheduled to kick off in the capital on February 5.

The clubs have already retained five cricketers each from their previous squads and will now select a minimum of 11 more players from the 213 available in the draft list, which also includes icon players, to make up their respective teams.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Imrul Kayes, Mustafizur Rahman, Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Nasir Hossain, Liton Das, Anamul Haque and Rubel Hossain are the twelve icon players.

The icon players' draft will be held first, followed by the A plus, A, B, B plus, C plus, and C player categories.

Ahead of the upcoming season two teams, who were recently promoted from the first Division, were afforded the luxury of selecting five players.

Soumya Sarkar is set to feature for newcomers Agrani Bank Cricket Club alongside Shahriar Nafees, Abdur Razzak and Shafiul Islam while the club also retained the double centurion of the previous first division league, Azmir Ahmed.

The other newly promoted side, Shinepukur, picked up Afif Hossain, Sadman Islam, Saifuddin and Shuvagata Hom while retaining under-19 cricketer Towhid Hridoy.

Taskin Ahmed, who was dropped from the national team for the ongoing tri-series, is yet to be selected by any of the clubs but is expected to be called in the draft today. Each team will be allowed to include one foreign recruit in the playing eleven.
