Tigers announce World Cup squad

Bangladesh have announced the squad for the upcoming World Cup in England. Paceman Abu Jayed Rahi and all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain made the cut while paceman Taskin Ahmed faced disappointment.

Abu Jayed Rahi, who recently played the Test series in New Zealand but is yet to feature in an ODI match for the national team was the surprise inclusion for many. Taskin had recently returned from injury and featured in a Dhaka Premier League (List A ) match but his fitness issue played a hand in him being omitted from the side for the World Cup.

Additionally, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also announced a 17-man squad for the tri-nation series in Ireland slated to be played in May ahead of the World Cup. The BCB president had earlier reiterated that since changes could be made to the World Cup squad till May 23, the board will finalise the squad upon completion of the Ireland series. Batsman Yasir Ali and spinner Naeem Hasan were added to the lineup that included the 15 already named in the World Cup squad. The duo will have a chance to make their claim for a place in the World Cup squad if they perform in the tri-nation series.

World Cup Squad: Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman, Mehedi Miraz, Rubel Hossain, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mustafizur Rahman, Abu Jayed Rahi, Mohammad Saifuddin, Mosaddek Hossain
