Anamul ready for all formats

Scores of 19 and 35 are not substantial enough for a batsman to express his satisfaction over. Opener Anamul Haque, however, has reason to be pleased with those small innings as his approach in the first two tri-series games against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, on his comeback to the national team after a long break, was praised by none other than Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

"I think as the team is happy [with his performance], I am also happy," said Anamul while talking to reporters at Mirpur yesterday. It apparently seems that for Anamul his return to the national team is a chance to prove that he is a team man and not a selfish player as the cynics like to brand him.

During the long chat with journalists the right-hander repeatedly said that he was trying to fulfil the demand of the team. "From my childhood I always tried to play long innings when I got the start. In the last two matches I got the start but didn't play big knocks but I am happy as the team won the matches and it also feels good that I contributed something. I want to bat as per the desire of the team," he said, adding that he loves to talk with the press at times.

He also portrayed a happy picture of the current dressing room. "It's a place [dressing room] where I feel that I will need to do something good and staying in this dressing room gave me the feeling that Bangladesh are now a big team."

Anamul made it clear that he was ready to take up the challenge in T20 and Test cricket too. "I will be able to change my game as per the team's desire…no problem. It would not be a problem for me to carry on my innings if my team lose too many early wickets… when it will be needed to hit out in the Powerplay overs in T20 cricket, there will be no problem for me… when it comes to Test cricket, I will try to prolong my innings. I am very much able to change the gears in my game. The only issue is to fulfil the desire of the team."

Anamul praised all of his teammates but reserved some special acclaim for his opening partner Tamim Iqbal. "It's a big thing that such a big opener like him [Tamim] was born in our country. It's a matter of pride to be able to bat with Tamim bhai," he said.
