New records on offer for Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman

Journalists extended their hands to Mashrafe Mortaza. Bangladesh ODI captain humbly suggested, congratulate him, not me. Almost immediately compliments rained down on the shy left-arm pacer from Satkhira, Mustafizur Rahman.

Mustafizur wrecked India's much-vaunted batting lineup with superb control and brilliantly disguised slower off-cutters. He picked up six wickets for 43 runs in 10 overs.

It was not just his second five-for against an impressive Indian batting line-up but a Viking effort that laid a solid platform for the Tigers to create a small piece of history -- a first-ever series win against the two-time world champions.

Speaking to reporters at the stadium, Dhoni praised the way Mustafizur Rahman used his variations to outfox the visitors.

"Today he bowled really well. Being a left-armer is certainly an advantage. He mixed his variations well. That was the main reason why he was so successful," said Dhoni.

Bangladesh ace allrounder Shakib Al Hasan was enthralled with the young left-arm bowler's heroics against India at Mirpur.

"He [Mustafizur] is only 19, and…he has a big career ahead. I think he is a great find for the Bangladesh team," Shakib said.

When the spotlight focused on Mustafizur, he could only wear a shy smile on his lips as journalists began with their questions.

With the prospect of whitewashing India ahead of our Tigers, their new-found bowling sensation has some new records within his reach.

The record of taking 5 wickets or more in three consecutive one-day international matches belongs to Pakistani fast-bowler, Waqar Younis.

He picked up the wickets against New Zealand and West Indies in November, 1990.

If Mustafizur gets a five-for in the third ODI against India, his record will probably be looked differently considering his age and greenness.

Waqar was 24 matches old when he achieved this rare feat. Mustafizur may accomplish it in his third ODI match!

The record for taking the most wickets in a 3-match series is also up for grabs, considering Mustafizur's red-hot form.

Ryan Harris of Australia had taken 13 wickets against Pakistan in January, 2010. Only three wickets can fetch the Bangladeshi left-arm bowler this record.

Mustafizur appeared rather detached from the hype surrounding his success, and he wanted to bowl well in the last match against India on June 24.
