Sumaiya breaks 19-year-old record

The Sheikh Russel 37th National Junior Athletics Championships concluded at the Army Stadium in Banani today with four new records set over two days.

Sumaiya Dewan, who won 100m sprint on the opening day, did a double by winning the female juvenile 200m sprint title at record time. The youngster from BKSP took 25.35 seconds, breaking a 19-year-old record set by Shamsunnahar Chumki by 0.25 seconds.

The other records were set in male juvenile discus throw by Pabna DSA's Masum Ahmed, in female juvenile discus throw by Noakhali DSA's Bibi Hajera and in girls' shotput by Jhenaidah DSA's Juwairiya Ferdous.

BKSP topped the medals table with 18 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals. Narail DSA finished second while Kushtia DSA finished third.
