Bangabandhu Bangladesh Games shifted to April

The postponed Banabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games will be held from April 1 to 10 in the capital and the divisional cities, decided a meeting of the executive committee of Bangladesh Olympic Association today.

The games, to be held marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was originally scheduled for April last year, but had to be postponed in the wake of the pandemic. 

It was later said that the games would be held in February this year at a smaller scale, but according to the latest decision, the games will be held in grand scale in April this year, with around 8500 athletes and officials participating.

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to send athletes in 17 disciplines including football and cricket to the 19th Asian Games, to be held in September next year in Hangzhou, China.

The meeting, chaired by BOA president General Aziz Ahmed at the Kurmitola Golf Club, also decided to send athletes in 13 disciplines to the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Turkey in September this year.
