Ajax grab Super League spot

Ajax Sporting Club became the final team to qualify for the Super League phase of the Premier Division Hockey League as they handed a 6-3 defeat to Victoria Sporting Club in their last first phase encounter at the Maulna Bhasani Hockey Stadium yesterday.

Ajax beat Victoria to claim their sixth win in 11 matches, one of which was a draw, and secure a Super League spot on 19 points. The other teams that will feature in the five-team Super League, which begins on June 1, are Mohammedan Sporting Club, Abahani, Dhaka Mariner Young's Club and Sonali Bank

Before the crucial fixture, both teams were on 16 points.

Lakhwinder Singh stuck twice while Hans Raj, Gurpreet Singh, Bappi Kumar and Harmanpreet Singh scored one goal apiece for Ajax. Rakib scored twice and Shahibaz Sheikh added another to reduce the margin for Victoria.

In the day's other match, Bangladesh Police notched their second victory by defeating Azad Sporting Club 4-2.
