Cyclone Sitrang lost some of its strength as it roared towards the coasts of Bangladesh and it can no longer be described as a 'severe cyclonic storm', says Bangladesh Met office.

Meteorologist Bazrul Rashid of Bangladesh Meteorological Department has confirmed the matter to The Daily Star.

Earlier in the evening Cyclone Sitrang started crossing Bangladesh territory.

Cyclone Sitrang formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal late Sunday (October 23, 2022). Coastal districts of Bangladesh have been experiencing torrential rains owing to the cyclone.

Bazrul Rashid said Cyclone Sitrang has made landfall and its centre has touched the territory of Bangladesh. It will take around five to six hours to pass through the country, the meteorologist added.
