Former Malaysian prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been discharged and will receive his follow-up treatment as and when required in the future, says the National Heart Institute (IJN).

IJN said that Mahathir was discharged at 8.40am yesterday.

"Dr Mahathir was recently admitted and received medical treatment during his stay at IJN.

"He shall now continue recuperating at home.

"Dr Mahathir shall be having his follow-up for continuation of his medical treatment as and when required in the future.

"Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali would like to express their thanks to everyone for their concern and doa (prayers) when he was admitted," IJN said in a statement yesterday.

Dr Mahathir was admitted to IJN for an elective procedure on Jan 7 and discharged on Jan 13. He was readmitted for follow-up treatment on Jan 20.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said the involvement of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air in the Johor election was a responsibility and a trust that must be shouldered by every member of the party.

In a letter to party members that was uploaded to his Facebook page yesterday, Dr Mahathir, who is Pejuang chairman, expressed his regrets for not being able to be with them in facing the state election.
