Abducted man rescued

Police rescued a man, who was abducted from the district three days ago, from Rangpur on Saturday night. They also arrested one Mizanur Rahman, 35, of Rahamatpura village under Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur district, in this connection. The victim is Azahar Ali, 50, of Anuhola village in Tangail Sadar upazila. Nazrul Islam, officer in-charge of Tangail Model police station, said Mizanur, who met Azahar a few days ago, took him to Rahamatpur village under Mithapukur upazila on assurance of give him a job on January 29. The abductor then demanded Tk three lakh as ransom from his family members over mobile phone.

Robbers hurl bomb at police

Robbers hurled bombs at a tempo carrying some policemen at Upashaharpara in the town early yesterday. However, the law enforcers survived the attack. Iqbal Bahar Choudhury, officer in-charge of Jhenidah police station, said being informed that a gang of robbers were committing robbery at the house of engineer Abdul Mannan of Public Health department, a police team rushed in but came under the bomb attack. Tempo driver Rafiul Islam was injured during the incident.

Land office staff killed

Police on Saturday night recovered the body of a man in Dalal Bazar area of Sadar upazila. The deceased was identified as Rakibul Islam, an employee of Charmohona land office in Raipur upazila and son of Humayun Kabir, an Awami League leader of Beltala village in Sadar upazila. Iqbal Hossain, officer in-charge of Sadar police station, said local people found the hanging body of Rakibul in an abandoned house in the area around 9.00pm and informed police. Later, police arrested five people.

 

Shop gutted in Bogra

A fire gutted a clothe shop damaging goods worth TK. 10 lakh at Bagabri Bazzar in Gabtoli upazila on Saturday night. Police said originating from a short-circuit, the fire gutted the shop owned by Zahurul Islam of the village. Sewing machines, cottons, ready-made clothes, generator, furniture and cash money worth Tk. 10 lakh were damaged, claimed the owner.

Five firearms seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered five handmade guns in a remote area in the district on Saturday. On secret information, a team of Naikkhangchharri 31 BGB raided Lombaphari area adjacent to Myanmar border and seized the guns. However, none was arrested in this connection, said Subedar Md Jabiul Islam of BGB 30 battalion.
