SI stabbed by Jamaat man in Meherpur

A police sub-inspector (SI) was stabbed by a Jamaat activist at Rajnagar village in sadar upazila of Meherpur district on Saturday night.
Atiar Rahman, officer-In-Charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, said Sub-Inspector Ekram along with constable Shahin went to Rajnagar village at around 7:30pm to investigate a case.
Jamaat activist Ashraful Islam of the village locked in an altercation with SI Ekram over the issue. At one stage, Ashraful swooped on Ekram and stabbed in his left elbow.
Asraful had gone into hiding soon after the incident. SI Ekram was admitted to Meherpur General Hospital.
In a press release yesterday, Jamaat Meherpur district unit General Secretary Siddiqur Rahman said Ashraful is not their party activist.
OC Atiar said Ashraful is a Jamaat activist and police have already launched a drive to arrest him.
