Classic Chuckles

Full House

(1987–1995)

Full House is a show set in San Francisco about a loving family headed by Danny Tanner, who, after losing his wife Pam Tanner in a tragic car accident, ended up as a single father. To help Danny raise his three daughters D.J, Stephanie, and Michelle, Pam's brother Jesse, and Danny's best friend Joey Gladstone shifted into the house, and thus it was "Full".

Even though at times the show has been criticised for being too cheesy and predictable, not to mention the at-times-annoying little Michelle, it still ranks as one of the benchmark shows to have aired on TV. Unlike today's series, the family values in this one are mirrored in most of the episodes and the manner in which the family overcome their hurdles deserves much appreciation. Full House did not fail to touch on the issues such as struggling with family and friends, sibling rivalry, peer pressure, the characters' individual sense of humour, romance and the lack of privacy often faced by large families. Another realistic approach the sitcom took was through its portrayal of real-life circumstances, such as death and eating disorders, dealt with by adults and kids alike.

Full House ran for 8 successive seasons and was one of the few primetime sitcoms to have more than 190 episodes. Another positive aspect was the show's ability to maintain consistency on the same level in its entire 8 season run and its compliance in relation to the "aging cast". The family theme and life lessons along with the humorous moments are what make the show so worthwhile.
