THROUGH THE EYES OF PIJUSH BANDYOPADHYAY

The name Pijush Bandyopadhyay is indistinguishable from the platform of theatre and television of Bangladesh. He is a successful actor, director, writer, reciter and a former Managing Director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). He started his acting career through the theatre troupe Bahubachan. Later, he worked with Natyachakra. In 1973, along with Nasiruddin Yousuff and Selim Al Deen, he founded the troupe Dhaka Theatre. He played the main character in 'Agami', which was the first parallel movie in Bangladesh, as well as in the first TV serial of Bangladesh titled 'Shokal Shondha'. Some of his most memorable films are 'Bengali Beauty', 'Mrittika Maya', 'Guerilla' and 'Kittonkhola'. He also directed many stage plays including 'Meenkanya', 'Ekatturer Khudiram' and 'Ekatturer Galpo'. Pijush Bandyopadhyay was a freedom fighter at the great Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. His remarkable contributions have made him an honorable personality of this country.

INSPIRATION

Undoubtedly, my first inspiration is my family. My parents were very motivational in flourishing my talents. Since childhood, the beauty of the nature and the people around me inspired me a lot. Of course, the great Liberation War of our country is my inspiration. Moreover, some successful personalities, their autobiographies and the stories behind their success: all these were very motivational to achieve whatever I have today. The profound respect and love from my co-artists, well-wishers and audiences are also my life-time inspirations.

PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of my life is to be a good human being. Therefore, my motto is to not hurt anyone. It gives me inner peace and the strength to serve more for the people of our country. The song Shobare Bashore Bhalo, Noile Moner Kalo Ghuchbe Na has left a deep impression on me. This gives me sanity and steers me toward the moral path.

VIEWS ON HIS PROFESSION

Acting is both my passion and profession. My theatrical activities as well as my acting, writing and direction are interrelated. Acting is a divine form of art which portrays the image of life. It reframes life and widens the thoughts of people. Acting is a great process to represent a person's happiness, sorrow, anger, fear and everything else by playing the character of that specific person. I must admit that talent is the first and foremost requirement for being an artiste. But, to be a bold actor, one should maintain some basic requirements too. Before playing a role, one has to prepare him or herself both physically and mentally for the very character. Innovation and improvisation are very important elements to deliver a quality performance. Currently, some of the new-comer artistes are doing really well. To be a successful artiste, one must be sincere, dedicated and passionate to his work. I appreciate the efforts of some extraordinary performers of our young generation. Senior artistes, teachers, instructors, along with the government should take proper initiatives to preserve the precious elements of our culture.

BOOKS

Since childhood, reading story books has been an addiction to me. The books of Rabindranath Tagore, especially his essays, are my top favorites. Manik Bandyopadhyay, Tarasanker Bandyopadhyay, Shawkat Ali, Shamsur Rahman, Al Mahmud, Shyamal Gangopadhyay, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Hasan Azizul Haque and Mahmudul Haque are also some of my favorite authors. I am very fond of traveling so I like travel stories a lot as well.

FILMS

I have watched a lot of movies, and usually like to watch classic ones. I also like watching short films and documentaries. The film Louisiana Story is one of my most favorite movies.

MUSIC

I love listening to various kinds of music. But my thirst for Rabindra Sangeet is eternal. Additionally, the folk songs and spiritual songs never failed to amaze me. Moreover, melodious old songs are my favorites, and I like some modern songs too. In general, I am very flexible when it comes to enjoying music.

FUTURE PLANS

I always love to work with passion. Therefore, I always remain busy with my theatrical activities as well as writing, direction, reciting and social activities. Recently, I have acted in a serial playing the role of a freedom fighter of the great Liberation War of our country. I always love to work for the society, the nation and the people of our country. I want to provide social messages to the people through my acting and other social activities. I have acted in many dramas playing the role of some protagonist characters, yet sometimes I played the role of some antagonists too. In my viewpoint, it is good to play negative roles in movies or dramas because the audiences can relate that to their lives and can understand what is good or bad for the society. Therefore, I would love to work for the people and our country till my last breath.

IDOLS

I cannot mention a specific name as my idol because I have so many. I admire the ideologies of Rabindranath Tagore. Once, the song Amar Othik Guru Bethik Guru, Guru Ogonon" sang by a Baul has reframed my view over life and to me, he was a philosopher too. Thus, he also became my idol. Additionally, some of my teachers are also my idols.
