Special Feature

BEST BOND EVER

1.DANIEL CRAIG
The internet was ablaze with indignation in 2005 as Eon Productions decided to hire the Cheshire-born actor for Bond. But Craig has had the last laugh after all. He became the best actor ever to play 007, his incarnation being the most believable. As a result, Casino Royale turned out to be one of the best Bond movies ever. In just three outings as cinema's most famous spy, the actor has already established himself as one of the greatest 007's thanks to his modern, humanised and frequently bad-ass take on the character. James Bond needs to be constantly reinvented in order to stay relevant, and Daniel Craig brings a physicality and magnetism to the role that sees his version stand as arguably the most well-developed and complex big-screen 007.His performances have been so convincing that it had managed to draw in crowds from the Brosnan and Connery clan as well.

2.PIERCE BROSNAN
Pierce Brosnan was originally offered the role of James Bond in 1987, but his other commitments saw Timothy Dalton cast instead. Almost a decade later Brosnan made his debut as 007 in spectacular fashion as Bond returned to the big screen after a six-year absence in Goldeneye, rejuvenating the critical and commercial reputation of the franchise in the process. Despite the strong performances however, the quality of the movies themselves kept on falling until it reached its lowest point with Die Another Day. There is no denying that Pierce Brosnan was a great choice to play the character. As well as looking the part, his take on 007 had all the good qualities of previous Bonds to deliver a take on cinema's most famous spy that revived the flagging series as both entertaining escapism and a culturally relevant blockbuster franchise.

3.SEAN CONNERY
He may not have been Ian Flemming's first choice but from the moment he utters the immortal introduction of 'Bond… James Bond', a star was born. With a strong screen presence and abundance of charisma, Connery almost effortlessly established 007 as one of the coolest characters in the movie business; suave and charming, with the innate ability to deliver a perfectly-timed and witty one-liner. Connery could have been on the top of the list but with the performances of Brosnan and Craig, in particular, he had to be bumped down the list.

4.TIMOTHY DALTON
Timothy Dalton's run as James Bond saw the iconic spy become a more complex and three-dimensional character, toning down the one-liners and gadgets in favour of a more realistic approach to Ian Fleming's source material. Dalton made for a convincingly intense 007, taking the franchise in a more mature direction that was unfortunately cut short after just two movies thanks to protracted legal disputes. Instead of the suave playboy that the character had become in the previous few movies, Dalton instead played Bond with a harder edge, making the character equal parts reluctant and ruthless.

5.ROGER MOORE
After being likened to Bond for a while, Moore was asked to step in after Connery resigned from the role of Bond. The longest-tenured Bond, Moore played the iconic spy in seven movies over 12 years, which unfortunately also coincided with a drastic downturn in the quality of the series. Moore played in the more light-hearted, comedic and gadget-heavy movies. Leaning heavily on his charm and ability to deliver a one-liner rather than his physicality, Moore became more and more unconvincing as time went on, with his eyebrow-raising persona now horribly dated when viewed today.

6.GEORGE LAZENBY
After five movies as 007, Sean Connery decided to step away from the Bond franchise, which led to the unknown and unproven Australian actor George Lazenby being cast as his replacement. While he certainly looked the part in a tuxedo, Lazenby was very limited as an actor and brought none of the charisma and screen presence to the role that had become synonymous with the character under his predecessor. Lazenby is definitely the most forgettable Bond; one-dimensional and wooden, the actor is way out of his depth in his big-screen debut, despite the movie being one of the more underrated entries in the long-running series. He was offered a 7 movie contract but only acted in 1 and remains the only actor to do so.
