Television of a lifetime

Television of bright retention

[Continued from last issue]

Once Syed Mahmud Ahmed and Golam Mostofa have given the idea to take the camera to the outdoor from the news and keep shooting. At the daylight, the news cameras are always under the busy schedule. So, the shooting will have to be started at night. It needs light. At that time in Dhaka, flash light used to be occupied with the still cameras which had to change the bulb every time. No one at that time could even imagine about sun gun. It has been decided to bring the flash light from FDC.

Later, the problem has been found out “how to synchronize the outdoor scenes with the studio's scenes”? The art director Anwar Hossain has come forward. He will make up a set which will be similar to the outdoor spot. There was no chance to keep the script in time of the outdoor shooting. Because, there was no option in the camera to capture the audio during taking the news footage. So, the script of the drama has been written specially. The name of the drama was “Fuli”. It has been produced by famous artist Din Mohammad. The audiences of the television have seen outdoor scenes for the first time in a drama. Editor Fahim Uddin Malik had perfectly edited the whole scenes since it was a live telecast and the audiences even didn't see any blank frame during switching the scenes from the outdoor to studio.

After telecasting the drama famous playwright and the first playwright of the television drama Munir Chowdhury had come the TV center and specially thanked all the officials of television. The whole team was inspired by his encouragement.

At that time whoever could involve in the solo programs they all used to discuss about the program. Of them painter Jainul Abedin, Qayyum Chowdhury, Munir Chowdhury, Nurul Momen, Ashkar Ibne Shaikh, Fateh Lohani, Sikandar Abu Zafar, Shamsur Rahman, Syed Shmasul Haque, Fazlul Haque, Rabeya Khatun, etc. Most of them have passed away and rest of them are still making programs for the television.

Syed Mahmud Ahmed has taken the retirement as the chief cameraman of the television. He had been taking the responsibilities of capturing the footages and giving the light directions since the first drama of the television. Roktokorobi, Taming of The Shrew, Borofgola Nodi, Aronner Shukh Dukkho, Shahjadir Kalo Nekab, Dubsatar, Borodidi, Parle Na Rumki, Hajar Bochhor Dhore, Lalon Fakir, Laal Benaroshi and Shongshoptok are the remarkable dramas.

Besides that he has worked as a cameraman and the light director of many musical programs. Syed Mahmud Ahmed has introduced how to use several types of shots during the outdoor shooting with a single camera.
