“The world needs to care. We need to care.”

Priyanka Chopra's visit to Bangladesh

While Bangladesh had its fair share of international celebrities gracing us with their presence over the years, the recent visit of Priyanka Chopra had the whole country talking; and for good reasons too. For the humanitarian purpose of raising awareness regarding the ever-growing Rohingya crisis in Myanmar and surrounding countries, Priyanka Chopra came to Teknaf, Cox's Bazar last week on a 4-day trip. Landing at the Cox's Bazar airport at May 21, the short yet meaningful journey as described by the famed actor herself was an eye-opening experience.

A majority of her trip involved her feeding babies and playing with the Rohingya children in the Bahukhali Refugee Camp situated in Teknaf. She visited the classrooms, shelters and went on field trips to meet these troubled refugees and offer them help in ensuring that proper healthcare and nutrition is provided to them. “These children are at the forefront of this humanitarian crisis, and they desperately need our help,” is her plea to the world.

During the trip, Priyanka made sure to keep a record of her most memorable moments in Bangladesh by regularly posting on Instagram. So her posts alone would be a good indicator as to how humbled she felt here and how she genuinely wants the world to care about this alarming concern. Her sincerity was apparent with the catchphrase she tagged in each of her posts: “The world needs to care. We need to care.”

“As I travel back from Cox's Bazar to Los Angeles, the only thing on my mind is how much privilege I have been blessed with,” stated Priyanka Chopra in her last Instagram post on the Bangladesh trip. She personally thanked everyone who had helped her life for the better, and she expressed a sincere desire to try to do more for those who aren't as fortunate as her. “I am moved by this field trip to the Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh. To witness the incredible strength it takes just to survive,” she added in her final remark. Perhaps an international celebrity like Priyanka Chopra shedding light on the Rohingya crisis will make other prominent personalities and world leaders respond to this ever-growing catastrophe with the urgency it demands, and bring a permanent solution once and for all.
